Victoria, along with eight other B.C. communities will receive new charging infrastructure from B.C. Transit for new electric buses.

In total, B.C. Transit will be acquiring 66 buses from Nova Bus and New Flyer, and additionally, nine B.C. communities will get about 134 new electric bus charging points over the next two years.

“Innovation in our public transit system helps us create a greener future for everyone. As we start to electrify our transit fleet more people will be able to make cleaner transportation choices affordably. The communities of B.C. will soon be seeing new electrical infrastructure for their transit needs,” noted Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Rob Fleming in a news release.

The buses are expected to arrive incrementally starting in early 2025, and completing in mid-2026.

In addition, B.C. Transit will be procuring more electric buses to support $395.5 million in funding for buses and infrastructure that was announced in 2023.

Costs are shared with the federal and provincial governments and local government partners.

Chilliwack, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Nelson, Powell River, Sunshine Coast and Whistler will also be getting new charging infrastructure.
