Celebrating Canada Day at Starlight Stadium

A packed crowd gathered to celebrate Canada Day

The crowd lined up around the corner as Starlight Stadium opened its doors to Langford residents for Canada Day. As the doors opened at 10 a.m., a by-donation pancake breakfast hosted by Langford Legion became a popular attraction as people migrated from one queue to another.

Once the crowd made its way past the pancake breakfast, they were greeted by the sounds of Melody Moonshaker, who kickstarted the musical guests and was followed by Trophy Dad at 11:15 a.m.

A range of activities was in store for those waiting in the ever-growing sea of people, including food and face painting, henna tattoos and cornhole competitions.

"It will be a great day," said Kevin Cuthbert, director of Langford Stinger Cornhole.

The Langford Stingers have a membership of 60 people, and attending the Canada Day Event was a great way to raise awareness of the sport.

Alongside the Langford Stinger Cornholes was the Victoria Eagles Baseball Club, who were selling tickets for the raffle on July 6, trying to raise money to revitalize the 1972 Mavericks Diamond at Lambrick Park.

"This is fun," said Martin Winstanley, president of Victoria Eagles Baseball Club.

A good selection of food vendors was on hand, including Flourish Beautea, Holy Cow Donuts, Wanna Waffle, Haagen Dazs and Treats and Babka Bakery.

Issac Han co-owner of Flourish BeauTea, said he was happy to have such great weather for the Canada Day celebration.

The RCMP Safety Bear, along with Justina Webb, made an appearance, allowing families to grab photos making their way through the line for the pancake breakfast.
